China investigates factory over fake cooking oil production

FBR Staff Writer Published 06 January 2012

A factory in city of Dongguan, Southern China, is being investigated by government officials following the reports of production of fake cooking oil at the site.

According to reports, Yong Long factory had combined cottonseed oil and flavor-enhanced soybean oil and marketed it as peanut oil.

Yong Long factory produces about four tons of cooking oil every day, supplying Pearl River Delta cities. It sold oil to Chinese food brands such as Master Kong, a leading instant noodle brand in the country.

China has struggled to control violations in the food processing sector over the recent years. Last year, police arrested 52 people in the southern province of Jiangxi for selling more than 2,000 tons of cooking oil dredged up from restaurant gutters.
