FBR Staff Writer Published 12 December 2017

Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM), a US-based global agricultural processor and food ingredient provider, has reached a deal to sell its oilseeds business in Bolivia to Peru-based Inversiones Piuranas for an undisclosed price.

The transaction includes ADM's processing plant in Santa Cruz de la Sierra along with nine grain silos and also the company’s Bolivian distribution business.

ADM’s Bolivian oilseeds operations involve soybeans and sunflower processing to convert them into oils and protein meal.

ADM oilseeds processing business unit president Greg Morris said: “We regularly review our portfolio, and the sale of our Bolivian Oilseeds operations is part of our long-term growth and transformation strategy.”

The transaction is anticipated to be closed in the first half of 2018 subject to receipt of regulatory approvals. Until then, ADM will continue to handle its oilseeds business in Bolivia.

ADM has around 400 employees in Bolivia and has associated operations of the Bolivian oilseed business in the cities of La Paz, Oruro and Cochabamba. The company claims that its edible oils refinery is the largest in Bolivia.

ADM, which is an agrifood company, processes agricultural crops into food products. The company, which has been in business since 1902, has around 32,000 employees, making it one of the largest agricultural processors and food ingredient manufacturers in the world.

The company has operations across 160 countries with its business made up of around 500 crop sourcing locations, 250 ingredient manufacturing plants and 38 innovation hubs among others.

Recently, the company launched a lineup of wheat protein concentrates under the brand name Nutriance to target the sports and senior nutrition markets.
