ADM reopens expanded oilseed processing plant in Ukraine

Published 29 November 2016

Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has reopened its improved and enhanced oilseed processing plant at Chornomorsk, Ukraine.

The project nearly doubles the facility's sunflower seed processing capacity and adds switch capacity that enables the plant to crush rapeseed.

It included doubling the current production lines in seed preparation, replacing the extraction facility and installation of a new biomass boiler.

ADM EU Softseed Crush general manager Anton Povkhan said: “This expansion enables us to continue to efficiently grow our operations in Eastern Europe and meet the needs of our food and feed customers in the region.

“In addition, by adding switch capacity to the facility, we now have more flexibility to quickly and effectively respond to shifts in the marketplace.”

Povkhan said: “Not only will these changes allow us to better serve our customers, but we’ll also be able to do so more efficiently.

“Our new equipment, combined with the added switch capabilities, give us low-cost, competitive capacity to meet strong demand.”

ADM has a significant presence in Ukraine. It has a nationwide network of seven regional offices, six inland grain elevators, a grain terminal at the port of Odessa and a crush facility in Chornomorsk. It has more than 900 employees working at its offices and facilities in the country.

Globally, the company has a presence in more than 160 countries with about 32,000 employees. Its worldwide value chain includes 428 crop procurement centres, 280 ingredient manufacturing facilities, 39 innovation centres and claims to have the world’s premium crop transportation network.
